Take 5: Fantastic Foxes

There are two species of fox in Massachusetts, the red fox and the gray fox. Both are secretive and wily, yet they’ve been favorite subjects of our Photo Contest photographers. Here are some of our favorite shots.

Our 2014 Photo Contest deadline has now passed, and the judges are hard at work poring over the entries. Check back in mid-November for the results!

I saw a beautiful, BIG, red fox yesterday (10/6/14) at Harmony Hill in Bourne. I’ve seen them before here. I think he was hunting turkey. We have a large turkey population here. Very brazen, casually sat and itched his ear on the side of our parking lot.

    Hi,
The last photo is a fox?
I am relieved. I described this to the vet.
They suggested it was a coyote.
It was small, had that coloring, large ears and that face!
    Thanks,
    Linda

I took some beautiful photos of baby red foxes this spring, just missed your contest. didn’t see the post. There were three batches of pups that would get together in the morning and eat what the mothers hunted. The young foxes totaled 9. It was a beautiful sight to see them play and eat. Swansea MA.
