A Summer Job With a Big Impact

If you are reading this blog post, it is very possible that it’s because you have had a memorable experience at Wildwood or another Mass Audubon camp, wildlife sanctuary, or program (or you love someone who has). All of our wonderful programs are possible because of our wonderful staff—and this summer, we hope that includes YOU!

All of our staff bring special skills to the table, whether they are teachers, artists, lifeguards, rock climbers, organizers, or trip leaders, and Wildwood is a welcoming and supportive place for introverts and extroverts alike.

And there are so many benefits to working at camp: Our staff make lifelong friendships, gain crucial life and job skills, make a difference in the lives of others, and have lots of fun while doing all this and more!

Here is just a sampling of the positions still available at Wildwood this summer:

Unit Counselors

Unit counselors live with children, supervise them daily, and teach fun activities throughout the day. Counselors have to be at least 19 years old or at least be one year out of high school. Typically, these staff members are between 19 and 30 years old.

Social Media Intern

Do you know someone that is a great photographer and whiz at social media? We are looking for an intern this summer to assist our Marketing team by taking photos, sharing them with camper families back home, creating fun and engaging social media posts, and writing blog posts (like this one!).

Teen Adventure Trip Leaders

Teen “Trek” Leaders facilitate groups of 5–8 teenagers on several one- or two-week outdoor adventure trips throughout the Northeast, both in the front- and backcountry. On each trip, two Trek Leaders work closely together to supervise and create a positive group environment where teens can learn, grow, and develop leadership skills in an active outdoor setting.

Fun at Field School 2019

That’s a wrap! Today was the third and final day of Field School—an annual gathering of all the Mass Audubon Camps staff from across the state where we learn, connect, and enjoy the beauty of Wildwood. The week was filled with silly songs, sunshine, campfires, s’mores, skits, laughter, and learning. It seemed like everyone had a blast!

Hello Wildwood Family and Friends!

Thank you so much for your continued support of the Wildwood program. Thank you also for your support of me as I transition into my new role as Director. I am so honored to have been selected to take on the leadership of Wildwood after Bob. He has been a great mentor to me over these last few years and I am so fortunate to be able to inherit such a solid program that truly serves the mission of Mass Audubon.

As I move in to this new role, one of the things I am most looking forward to is hearing from you all, our campers, families, and alumni. I’ve been participating and working at camp since I was 9 years old, and I know how important it is to continue those important programs and traditions which stay with each of us in the months and years after leaving camp. So please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me anytime. I’d love to hear more about what has made Wildwood so special for you.

I also want the flow of communication to continue in both directions. Through the blog, I and other members of the Wildwood team will give you a look in to the happenings and planning that go on at camp year-round. So check back every few weeks to hear the latest “Word from Wildwood”

Whether or not you are able to make it to camp this summer, I’d love to catch up during one of our open house events at camp in Rindge. If you haven’t yet been to the site in Rindge, or haven’t been in a number of years, the open house will be a great opportunity to talk more about Wildwood’s past and future. Those events will be from 1 – 3pm, on May 3^rd and 10^th. I hope to see you all at an open house and of course at camp this summer!
