Session 3 Is On!

Hi Everyone out there in Blogland! We are off to a great start here with Session 3! After a couple of pretty good thunderstorms last night, we had a pretty sunny day in the mid 80’s today. Of course, today was the start of the regular routines here with morning IGs with DGs and OATs in the afternoon. Yes it was “Bring a Letter to Dinner” night, and everyone had one. So you should get it in a few days.

Lot’s of cool stuff going on here today, and I got out to see a little bit of it. I saw Kite Making, Origami, Newcomb at the volleyball court and some really cool nature art – see below for some pictures of all of this! You can Google Andy Goldworthy to see some of the stuff that inspired them.

Tonight was Unit Night, where campers and staff from each unit do something special together. Abbey and Dillard where having a great time playing games and swimming at the waterfront. Carson was decorating some really cool sunglasses. Fossey was playing a bunch of great games and making cup cakes in the dining hall. And Leopold and Thoreau were both out at the ropes course experiencing some “Flying Squirrel”. The JCs were helping out too!

Meanwhile with some of our groups that are out and about all over the northeast;

The LITs called in to report they had made it to their camping spot about mid-afternoon. They’ll be finishing up the final leg of the journey in the morning before heading back to camp. I’ll get some more details to share soon.

The Champlain Trek also checked in to say that had some “Wicked thunderstorms” last night and a rainy, foggy conquest of Mt Mansfield today. Tomorrow, they are heading off to Lake Champlain for a couple days on the lake – cool stuff!

Finally, I also heard today from our folks in Newfoundland. They are having a blast too. A few days ago they were out sea kayaking and just after a storm that rolled in began to clear, they saw a gorgeous double rainbow. The next day was rafting in the rain, but after the first few minutes, it really doesn’t matter if its raining or not! They hiked at Gros Morne the following day before heading up to L’anse aux Meadows, to visit the first authenticated viking settlement. They saw a couple moose along the way.

I’ll be sure to update you with any additional info I receive from any of these trips.

So, here’s the first installment of photos from Session 3. More to come in a couple days. Enjoy!
