When they arrived at camp, they were told there would be a special visitor and the crew quickly sprang into action creating welcome banners. Who was the visitor? None other than Governor Deval Patrick.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Patrick\u00a0was at Broadmoor to join Anita Walker of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.massculturalcouncil.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Massachusetts Cultural Council<\/a> (MCC), Marty Jones of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.massdevelopment.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">MassDevelopment<\/a>, State Representative David Linsky, and State Senator Karen Spilka to award cultural nonprofits (including Broadmoor) grants from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.massculturalcouncil.org\/facilities\/facilities.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund (CFF)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Broadmoor, specifically, will receive $185,000 from CFF to put toward upgrading and expanding the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.massaudubon.org\/Nature_Connection\/Sanctuaries\/Broadmoor\/campaign.php\" target=\"_blank\">Saltonstall Nature Center<\/a>,\u00a0one of the state\u2019s pioneering green buildings. All of the speakers echoed Governor Patrick in noting how important cultural institutions including Mass Audubon, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.danforthmuseum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Danforth Art Museum<\/a> in Framingham, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.decordova.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">deCordova Museum<\/a> in Lincoln are for the state of Massachusetts and its residents.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2012\/07\/GovPatrickatBroadmoor_HillaryTruslow-19_small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-417\" title=\"Governor Patrick and Senator Spilka join Mass Audubon President Laura Johnson and Broadmoor Sanctuary Director Elissa Landre for a walk at the wildlife sanctuary.\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2012\/07\/GovPatrickatBroadmoor_HillaryTruslow-19_small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"363\" height=\"242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2012\/07\/GovPatrickatBroadmoor_HillaryTruslow-19_small.jpg 448w, https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2012\/07\/GovPatrickatBroadmoor_HillaryTruslow-19_small-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 363px) 100vw, 363px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our investments in our cultural life is about completing us. It\u2019s about completing us\u00a0as community, as human beings, and completing us economically as well,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Patrick and Senator Spilka enjoyed the opportunity to tour the current nature center as well as to take a brief walk on Broadmoor&#8217;s universally accessible All Person&#8217;s Trail.
