These new trees will be better suited to deal with warming temperatures\u00a0&#8212; a direct consequence of climate change &#8212; ensuring the forest can live for years to come. Thanks to a generous donor, staff were able to remove a wide strip of invasive shrubs and trees. Property staff will plant native wildflowers, trees, shrubs, and grasses. Not only will these actions support our beloved pollinators this\u00a0spring, it\u2019ll also help preserve the biodiversity of Ipswich River, increasing its resilience to climate impacts.\u00a0You can see this restoration in action via the\u00a0Bunker Meadow\u00a0Trail.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From Cranberries to Wildlife\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2021\/04\/20210106_143553.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15504\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2021\/04\/20210106_143553.jpg 750w, https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2021\/04\/20210106_143553-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2021\/04\/20210106_143553-624x416.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The previous owners of a cranberry farm\u00a0in\u00a0Plymouth committed\u00a0to restoring the wetlands they owned when they stopped farming in 2010. Thanks to\u00a0Evan Schulman and\u00a0Glorianna\u00a0Davenport\u2019s decision,\u00a0what is now\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.massaudubon.org\/get-outdoors\/wildlife-sanctuaries\/tidmarsh\" target=\"_blank\">Tidmarsh\u00a0Wildlife Sanctuary<\/a>\u00a0is being restored to create a mosaic of habitats including ponds, cold-water streams, red maple,\u00a0and Atlantic white cedar swamps, grasslands, and pine-oak forests.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0original\u00a0restoration project\u00a0removed nine dams, excavated over three miles of new stream channel, and removed thousands of tons of sediment to connect headwaters of Beaver Dam Brook with the ocean for migrating fish such as river herring, brook trout, and American eel.\u00a0After purchasing\u00a0the\u00a0property\u00a0in 2017, Mass Audubon continued\u00a0these restoration efforts\u00a0with our partners.\u00a0Enjoy the Entrance Trail to admire Tidmarsh\u2019s most recent restoration\u00a0work\u00a0(along what is now\u00a0Manomet\u00a0Brook), or bask in the\u00a0Madar\u00a0Loop for a longer walk to see how\u00a0previous\u00a0restoration efforts took hold.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019re celebrating Earth Day\u2019s theme of restoring our earth, and we want you to celebrate with us.
