All was calm when one of the students pointed and said\u202f&#8221;a\u202fbig bird just landed in that dune!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Immediately, a Barn Owl floated effortlessly across the moors. We began passing binoculars like hot potatoes, unaware that magnification would soon become obsolete. One of the owls came so close that everyone could see his heart-shaped face and golden wings with the naked eye.\u202fIt\u202fthen\u202fhovered 20\u202ffeet\u202ffrom the van, grabbed a vole, ate it, and then exploded off into the night.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This experience all happened thanks to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/terracorps.org\/\">TerraCorps<\/a>. For the past&nbsp;six&nbsp;of months, I have been working at Mass Audubon as part of my&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/meet-the-terracorps-crew\/\" target=\"_blank\">TerraCorps&nbsp;service year<\/a>. I\u2019ve had the opportunity to work on many projects from launching&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/crowdsourcing-nature-sightings\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mass Audubon\u2019s presence on&nbsp;iNaturalist<\/a>&nbsp;to leading naturalist excursions during an&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/an-alternative-spring-break\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alternative Spring Break<\/a> for UMass Boston students on Nantucket.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a recent college graduate, reading the &#8220;2-5 years of experience&#8221; requirement on job postings is pretty discouraging.\u202fTerraCorps\u202fsupports young professionals like myself as they gain\u202fvaluable\u202fexperience and connections into the ecological field\u202fthrough\u202fhands-on work with\u202fecologically based nonprofits.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I applied for this position, I\u202fonly knew\u202fMass Audubon as a legendary name in the world of conservation.\u202fNow I can personally attest that it is so much more. The people I\u2019ve met,\u202fadventures I\u2019ve had, and lessons I\u2019ve learned have become\u202fpermanent building blocks in my professional career.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am excited to say that Mass Audubon is actively looking to bring on more TerraCorps members throughout the state. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.massaudubon.org\/jobs\/terracorps-service-member-multiple-positions-and-sites\">Apply for a service year with Mass Audubon<\/a>\u202ffor a chance to learn from\u202fthe best naturalists, stewards,\u202fand\u202feducators\u202fin Massachusetts.
