Mass Audubon received 34% of all votes in REI\u2019s first-ever \u201cLoving Our Local Outdoors\u201d member vote grant in New England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"834\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2019\/03\/Member_Participation_Instagram_Standard_Image1-1024x834.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12474\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Award<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, we will receive $15,500 to split between two projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>On the South Coast of Massachusetts, we will build new trails at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.massaudubon.org\/allenspond\">Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary<\/a> to create an amazing eight-mile circuit trail that allows hikers to experience beautiful beach, grassland, and salt marsh habitat. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Just west of Boston, at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.massaudubon.org\/broadmoor\">Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary<\/a> in Natick, we will repair and reroute nine miles of hiking trails that have eroded due to heavy use and flooding over the years, creating an improved visitor experience.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Both projects will include ADA-accessible trail additions and enhancements, such as observation platforms and a boardwalk, so that people of all abilities can get out and enjoy nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here\u2019s How it Worked<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Between March 7 and April 9, 2019, REI members who made an in-store purchase were encouraged to vote for one of three local stewardship projects\u2014Mass Audubon, Appalachian Mountain Club, or Save the Bay\u2014via an in-store display. Participating stores included Boston, Cranston (RI), Framingham, Hingham, and Reading. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our sincerest thanks <\/strong><strong>to our supporters and to REI members for\nmaking this happen!
