The deadline to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulations.gov\/comment?D=BOEM-2017-0074-0001\">submit comments<\/a> to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is March 9.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10620\" style=\"width: 735px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10620\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10620\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2018\/03\/Jennifer_Childs725.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"725\" height=\"483\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2018\/03\/Jennifer_Childs725.jpg 725w, https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2018\/03\/Jennifer_Childs725-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.massaudubon.org\/yourgreatoutdoors\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2018\/03\/Jennifer_Childs725-624x416.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 725px) 100vw, 725px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10620\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 Jennifer Childs<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Impact of Offshore Drilling<\/h3>\n<p>The exploration, development, and production of oil and gas off the Massachusetts Outer Continental Shelf would have severe impacts on fisheries, wildlife habitat, and geological resources.<\/p>\n<p>Offshore drilling could threaten areas like Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, which provides feeding grounds for species like the endangered humpback whale and Kemp\u2019s ridley sea turtle.<\/p>\n<p>It also poses a risk to the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts National Marine Monument, home to four underwater, extinct volcanoes, which feature thousand-year-old corals found nowhere else on earth.<\/p>\n<p>Massachusetts and all of New England depend on a thriving coastal and ocean economy \u2013 which brings in $17.5 billion annually to the region\u2019s \u2013 and that success in turn depends on healthy coastal and ocean ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Let BOEM know that we can\u2019t afford to place our invaluable natural spaces at risk<\/strong> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulations.gov\/comment?D=BOEM-2017-0074-0001\">submitting comments online today<\/a>.
