Fired Up At Field School

With just days left until the start of Mass Audubon camps across Massachusetts and here in Rindge, NH, we are in full swing getting everything ready for the campers’ arrival. From June 14-16, Wildwood hosted 140 new and returning camp counselors from 13 Mass Audubon Camps, from Pleasant Valley to Joppa Flats and everywhere in between, for the annual Field School.

Field School is a unique opportunity for counselors from camps across Mass Audubon’s properties to come together to share songs, stories, and experiences, and learn new skills—like lesson planning and behavior management—and fun nature activities to share with their campers, from tree identification to field games.

Wildwood was thrilled to host such fun, excited, engaged young leaders. This is going to be the best summer yet!

Wonders of Water and Watersheds

Camp directors, educators, and scientists led workshops on topics like beginner birding, wild edibles, and forest exploration. Here, Joppa Flats Camp Director Kirsten Lindquist (right) demonstrates the scarcity of fresh water on planet Earth through a kid-friendly activity.

Lifecycles of Butterflies and Dragonflies

From egg to larva to pupa to adult, counselors learn about the life cycles of butterflies and dragonflies, lessons they can share with their campers this summer.

Oh Deer! And Other Nature Games
