Beach Discovery Program Partnership

Joppa Flats young naturalist, Abby

We teamed up with the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge to bring a new BEACH DISCOVERY PROGRAM every Wednesday afternoon from 2-4pm in August to beachgoers! The Joppa Flats team packed up many species of crabs, mollusks and echinoderms from our 110-gallon touch tank and set up a tide pool touch tub under a tent in the parking lot leading to the boardwalk to the beach. Education Interns and staff from both Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats and USFW offered guidance in handling live marine life and speaking to visitors about conservation issues facing coastal living such as erosion, climate change and sea level rise. Each program resulted in 30 – 80 visitors attending!
